Kevin JohnsonBiography
The Reverend Kevin Johnson - Rector

The Reverend Kevin Johnson accepted a call to Saint Peter’s in July of 2007.  He comes to Saint Peter’s from San Antonio in the diocese of West Texas.  Prior to being becoming a priest Kevin served in the US Army Corps of Engineers for twelve years.  He says that this time gave him a much broader experience of various cultures and an appreciation of their gifts.

A native Texan, Kevin is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds his Master in Divinity from Virginia Episcopal Seminary.  Kevin first discovered the beauties of eastern North Carolina when he participated in a retreat at Trinity Center in 2004.  Kevin is married to Sandy, a nurse practitioner.  They have two daughters, Sabrina and Sarah. They all are enjoying living in this part of the country and Washington in particular.

Kevin was attracted to Saint Peter’s because the congregation has a sense of permanence which then allows them to take risks in compassionate ministry to the greater world.  Plus, the people actually seem to enjoy spending time around each other.  Kevin is passionate about the Church being the voice of Good News to the world.  He loves doing ministry at Saint Peter’s and looks forward to meeting and working with you.

What a "rector" is and what this rector does: In the Episcopal system, the rector is the chief pastor and preacher in the parish, and is authority for the liturgy and sacraments. In institutional terms, he is convener of and a member of the Vestry, the church's legal and fiduciary body. In broad terms, he is expected to lead with vision, encourage others in their ministry, and promote a viable and transparent operating system for the church's business.
